We have full Signing Authority, the Ministry of Transportation qualification required to test and license drivers who are employees of our Company. All new drivers are required to obtain a B Class License with Z endorsement (for air brakes).
Our training staff is fully trained and qualified to deliver all training that is required to obtain this license.
Here is a brief outline of some of the components included in our Driver Training Program:
There are 16 specific lessons which begin once you have successfully completed your Ministry medical and BZ class written test (which is given by us).
The lessons cover such topics as:
- New Worker Safety Orientation
- Daily walk around inspection (circle check)
- WHMIS
- Railway crossing procedure
- Correct mirror adjustment
- Air Brake system check
- Defensive driving techniques
- Cornering, backing, parking, lane changes
- Student pick up procedure and appropriate stop locations
- Student behaviour management and discipline
- Use of bus patrols
- School Bus Loading Zones
- Bus evacuation procedure
- Multi lane highway driving
- Night driving
- Breakdown and Accident management and reporting procedures
- Proper use of two-way radios
Once you become licensed and are eligible to drive a bus with passengers, we provide an additional 3 days training where you have the opportunity of driving a fully loaded bus but continue to have the support of a trainer who will be riding with you. You do the driving while the trainer assists you in building your confidence.
